TO ADOPT ZIGGY........

Note from the owner:

After about 6 months of professional training the trainer contacted me and said I can't take this horse any farther, she can not retain what I teach her and it is impossible to move on with her training.  She has gone as far as I can take her.  You see when Ziggy was born, she had watery scours and almost died, but the place where she foaled saved her.  She was treated like an orphan foal.  Anyhow if you research her pedigree you will find that she carries both Impressive and Poco Bueno in her pedigree, not a very good combination and hence we fear she has genetic problems because of this and should never be bred.  She has upright fetlocks and a upright shoulder so she is very rough at the lope and she seems to have problems placing her feet at the lope.  She also has a nervous problem, she has only been shown twice in her life in walk-trot classes and at her last show she became extremely upset and later that evening suffered an ulcer attack.

She tends to get very upset when things change in her life she doesn't handle change very well.  This is when I worry about having problems with her ulcer.  She is currently being feed Safe Choice Feed by Nutrena.  She is being feed 4 lbs of Safe Choice a day.  She will let you clip her with an electric clipper and she was just trimmed by our farrier about 3 weeks ago.  She requires about four trims a year as she keeps good care of wearing her hooves down. When she comes into heat and if she is around a gelding that was cut later in life she will peskier that horse until she falls out of heat.  As far as vices, she does not bite, kick, chew wood or paw.  She is really pleasant to be around.  Her main vice is she worries.  I wouldn't put an inexperience rider on her, it has to be a person that wants to just walk and trot and that is very calm.  She has been ridden western with a twisted wire snaffle, so the rider needs good hands.

I would rate her temperament around a 2 when you are not riding her.  She is very pleasant when she feels comfortable in her surroundings. I would rate her a 7 when you ride her.  She starts to worry, it is like her brain can't handle that many things going on at once.  She was an excellent showmanship horse very bright and alert, but you have to be around her all the time to keep her comfortable so it isn't worth showing her.  It bothers her to much.  She needs a home where she can graze and not have to worry about the outside world.

We need her gone before the snow falls and I have to close up my pasture for the winter.  Which will be in the next few weeks.  Once this happens we will be on hay and she is the underdog and will drop in weight.  The other mares just will not let her eat hay.  My other mares are all related and they become very cruel to her.

UPDATE 11/29/2007:

Just wanted to let you know I did worm Ziggy Sue with quest gel today.  When I taped her I noticed she has lost approximately 55 lbs since 7-30-07.  She was at 1000 lbs in July and now she is down to 945 lbs.  Back on March-07 I taped her she had dropped to her lowest amount of 850 lbs at that time she was ribby.  She isn't that right now but I have noticed that her rumb isn't as full as it has been this summer.
To make matters worse the two mares that are the cruelest to her both have gained since July 30.  Goldie 100 lbs and Libby 150 lbs.  So I have a pretty good idea who is eating Ziggy's hay.  I don't have the area where I can seperate Ziggy out with out upsetting her.  I have tried to feed her in the barn, but she paces and doesn't eat her hay.  I have put her in with another buddy and she still wants to be with the other mares.  I suppose I could trying putting her on beet pulp, although in the past when she has been on it she hasn't liked it very well.
I know I am hoping for a miracle here with Ziggy finding a new home, but I can still hope.  ...
