But first - here are some answers to FAQ:
Depending on the current situation, we try to pay for transportation to the foster-home if we have to, but those fees will have to be added to the adoption fee of the horse later on. So any foster homes that would be willing and able to pay the transportation fees for the horse now, and get reimbursed after adoption, would be very, very helpful. I wish we could afford to just "donate" the transportation, but sadly, we have to pay for transportation just like everybody else and funds are tight.
We hate to be "picky", but I'm afraid at this point we can only afford to work with foster homes who are willing and able to take full responsibility for the care and "upkeep" of the foster-horse until the horse gets adopted.
"Foster now, adopt later" is certainly an option as long as you will be pre-approved for adoption and don't plan on a lengthy "payment-plan". In fact, this might be the perfect solution for everybody who wants to adopt but is hesitant until they actually meet the horse....
Usually all horses have a current negative Coggins test and a health certificate before they arrive at the foster home. However, sometimes they might be in need of vaccinations, wormings, hoof-care and lots of TLC. Necessary BASIC vaccinations and hoof-trimmings will be paid for by LHR with prior approval.
We would LOVE to keep all foster-offers on file, and if we ever have the chance of "catching a ride" to one of those locations, we would be happy to take you up on the offer....... Of course, for now, everybody interested in adopting or foster-to-adopt, or people that have already been pre-approved for adoption, have priority, but that doesn't mean that we don't need YOUR help.
