01/15/2007 - PLEASE HELP....This is a 20-22-yo gelding, stuck on a feedlot in WA, with no hope and less than 2 days left. The slaughter truck is scheduled to take him away on Wednesday - please help us save him. We need a foster home in the WA/ID/OR area and/or donations for his ransom and transportation:
Kris Kringle - 20 - 22 year old, 15.1h, red roan QH type gelding. Kris is quite sad but perked up when gave him attention and rode him. Kris is very well trained! Neck reins, backs, give to rein and leg pressure. He is an ideal confidence builder! Ideal for the timid rider. He is not 100% sound on his left front but if he was put on supplements like he would make a nice light riding horse..... ***Update 1/5/07: Kris is still waiting for his forever home!!! He continues to follow us around looking for treats and affection. He would make a suitable horse for a beginning rider as he is super gentle and well broke.
UPDATE 01/17/2007 - KRIS KRINGLE has been saved !!!!!!!!!!
T H A N K Y O U for all your pledges and donations - you made it happen !!!
He will be quarantined in WA until he can be transported to his new home where he will be examined by a Vet and farrier for further evaluation and treatment - most-likely x-rays, extensive farrier work and teeth-floating will be necessary !! More updates to follow !!
UPDATE 01/22/2007: Kris Kringle needs a foster- and/or a potential adoptive home
I'm so sorry....... I've run into some BIG problems and can't bring Kris to SD right away as planned. I rescued an older gelding who arrived last Thursday (01/18/06), and he turned out to be over 30 years old, completely starved and dehydrated. He is not eating or drinking, had a colic that night and we almost lost him. After 3 days of IVs he is still not out of the woods. And if he pulls through, it will be about 3-4 months until he's healthy and/or stable again. So to make a long story short, until he is all better, I can't bring any horses in from auctions or feedlots - any virus, infection or disease could kill our "Old Guy", and I just can't risk that. I don't want Kris being stuck in a quarantine place somewhere for so long - he needs a loving home where he will get lots of attention, quality food and care, and where he can get examined and treated by a Vet and farrier ASAP.......
If you are interested in fostering and/or adopting Kris, please contact me right away !!
After some major confusion, here is a note to make something very clear - Kris' bail is paid for by all the donations that came in. He is off the feedlot and in quarantine care in WA right now, which costs $250 per month. His first month there has been donated as well, everything after that, if not adopted by then, I will take care of !! So whoever decides to adopt him won't have to pay anything besides transportation, if that.... And in case he's still in quarantine by the time my Old Guy has recovered, I could then take Kris Kringle in as planned !! Any questions, please contact me directly before making any hasty assumptions !!! Thank you. Gabi
Kris has been adopted to CA and the adopter picked him up herself in WA on 02-03-2007. He's at a great home with kids and a family that loves him very much. And thank goodness he didn't have to stay in quarantine for too long !!
THANKS to everyone who helped save his life !!!!!!!!!
