UPDATE from trainer/foster-mom 1/24/2008:
Jake has settled well into his new foster home. He is doing well in a mixed herd with docile mares. He is very intimidated by alpha males. Alpha mares peak his interest, so I haven’t turned him out with any yet. We have backed him, but he is totally unaware what the bit is for. He is accepting of a rider on his back, but you don’t have much steering. We are returning to ground driving until he understands the bit better. He is very gentle, and will stand cross tied for grooming. He does need to be approached calmly and quietly as he lacks confidence at this stage in the game. We are working on picking up his feet, but he’s not the best as of yet. Definitiley green, but a very willing student.
